Ozubulu Church Attack: Saraki, Andy Ubah, NGP Chairman Condemn Perpetrators

The president of the Senate, Dr Bukola Saraki, and the national chairman of New Generation Party of Nigeria (NGP), Dr Yakubu Shendam, have condemned the massacre that occurred at St. Philip’s Catholic Church in Ozubulu, Anambra state that left 12 persons dead and 18 others hospitalized.

In a statement signed by his special adviser on media and publicity, Yusuph Olaniyonu, Saraki stated that the killing of worshippers represents the purest kind of evil, and the security services must not stop until the perpetrators are brought to justice.

Part of the statement read: “Today, my heart goes out to Nigeria’s Christian community, Governor Willie Obiano, the people of Anambra state, and the families of the victims and the survivors of this terrible massacre.

“This brutal act of attacking innocent and unsuspecting worshippers represents the purest kind of evil.

“Our security forces must not stop until everyone involved in the orchestration and execution of today’s massacre in St. Philip’s Catholic Church, Anambra are brought to book by the strong arm of justice.”

On his part, Shendam lamented the state of insecurity in the country, questioning how it armed men just wake up in the morning and walk freely into a church and start shooting and killing innocent people.

His words: “Governor will open his mouth saying that he knows the drug barons responsible for the attack. What has he done, since he said he has knowledge of their illegal businesses home and abroad, why has he not alerted the police and the South African government.

“We need a generational change in this country, as the masses are no longer safe in the hands of this wicked Government we must do the needful in Anambra in 2017 and Nigeria in 2019.”

However, Shendam promised to travel to Ozubulu to personally pay condolence to the victims’ families, even as he urged the state government to ensure the perpetrators are caught and made to pay for their crime and face justice.

Meanwhile, Senator Andy Uba has condemned in strong terms the incident at St. Philips Catholic Church, Ozubulu.

The senator called on the commissioner of police and the Anambra state governor to ensure that the perpetrators of such dastardly act are brought to book.
